Teachers - Rosa Lusia Rossi

Rosa Lusia Rossi

Biography

Training Backgroud
Rosa Luisa Rossi has been involved with the Alexander Technique since 1979 and has been teaching since 1986. She works privately in Switzerland and is a Co-Director of "Think Out of the Box", a company specialising in Alexander workshops for corporate clients.
She trained as an Alexander teacher from 1983 - 1986 in Zurich with Jacqueline Webster and Irma Rellstab, both of whom were trained in England by Peter Scott. Thus, Rosa Luisa’s original perspective of the work was influenced by the teaching style of Alexander as passed on to his students – i.e. chairwork, monkey, hands on the back of the chair, whispered ah etc.

Post-Graduate Work
After her training course, she continued (and still continues) to study the technique with different teachers. In the past she has worked with Marjory Barstow, Cathy Madden, all the teachers from the Performing School in Seattle, Tommy Thompson and Peter Grunwald.
From this study she deepened her understanding of the work and how to apply it to her daily life. Also, with every new teacher she discovered new ways to teach Alexander’s discoveries. During this time, she also extensively studied and continuously re-read the four books of F. M. Alexander.

Positions of Office
For 7 years she was working for the Swiss Society of Teachers of the Alexander Technique (SVLAT) and was the President for 3 years. She also worked as a founding member for the International Affiliated Societies agreement.

Her Approach
Her commitment is to bridge the gap between the different approaches to this important work. To this end, she remains a member of SVLAT, as well as an active member in Alexander Technique International (ATI).

About this she writes:
“Having not only looked into many different ways of teaching, but having also learned from them and made the application in my everyday life, I see today that we all teach the same principles - but it’s not easy to define them when they are thought of in another way as one’s Self is used to do it. That’s something most of us have to learn: to recognize when and how the principles of the Alexander Technique are taught. From my point of view a lot of confusion and misunderstandings are arising from there.”

Home
She currently lives in Rheinfelden, Switzerland with her husband.
